We're very lucky.
Jack is the sort of child
we all assume we'll have
when we decide to have children,
and the sort of child
less experienced parents
congratulate themselves for.

A New Day Dawns

First off, I apologize. I feel particularly ineloquent today, but it's been so long that I feel the need to post anyway -- and we have these cool photos to share!

I hope to find my writer's skill tomorrow or later this week and post something better soon!

Jack has been walking independently for a little over a week now. He still doesn't walk everywhere, he probably uses crawling as transportation just about equally with walking at this point, with walking gaining favour just about daily.

But though he isn't walking exclusively yet, having made that triumph seems to have changed Jack in some pretty impressive ways. I guess that's not unexpected -- but the dramatic change startled me at first.

Over the coarse of the last week, Jack -- who was until now, a rather physically cautious boy, has become a real daredevil! There is nothing this boy won't try! It has come as a real surpise to his very physically cautious Mamma!

What's even better is that mainly he is succeeding spectacularly!

On Sunday, Dad and I took Jack to the park to play and Jack showed off his exciting new skills for Dad!

He ignored the "baby stairs" (a series of shallow three-foot platforms that spiral up to the top of the play structure) and focussed on climbing up and down and up and down the "big kid" stairs (an almost ladder-like series of steep, narrow steps that lead directly to the top of the slide.)

After he had practiced on the steps for about a half hour, Jack was ready to tackle the slide. He had been down just once before, late last week - - and that had required that Mamma hold both of his hands.

This time, he was ready to try it on his own -- and he had a *wonderful* time!

And, of course, he wanted to practice his new slide skills over, and over and over again, too -- with no support, thank you very much!

What a big boy!

(Oh, and don't forget to notice his cool new shoes! He shows them off everywhere he goes!)
