We're very lucky. |

A great WeekendJack had a really, really good weekend. There were some less than stellar moments, of course, but all in all, he seemed to have a wonderful time! First we went to visit our friends Mark and Matthew for dinner at their place. Mark and I have been co-workers and friends for many years, and Jack has recently decided that Mark is the ultimate in cool; he asks often if we're going to see him. So, of course, jack enjoyed visiting Mark -- and Matthew, who is Mark's 12 year old son, is very good with kids, and amazed Jack by being an adult sized person who knows how to play like a kid! (Matt is 5'6", so I'm not kiddign when I say "adult sized'.)
Then, the next day, Jack and I went off to scrapbook with our friend Julie and her kids, Rehanna, Connor, and Alex. Rehanna is about 10 and she's a little mother, and extremlygood with jack amd Connor and Alex are 5 and 7, and are willing to play with Jack, too, so Jack had a Big Weekend, with kids to play with every day! In between our adventures, Jack helped with the housework -- he helped Mamma wash dishes and laundry, and he helped Dad tidy the floor and vacuum. He was a very busy boy. He was so exhausted that he fell into bed like a stone, and then slept in until 10am -- an amazing late sleep for our early morning loving budgie!
And growing up so fast! There are so many signs that Jack is hitting a new level in growing up!He's using more words -- almost a new word an hour at some points! An he's using them more clearly! "My Dad, my Grace (the cat), my Mamma." have all become standrds phrases. He also uses two and three word sentences occasionally - -though we're seeign the downside of his having learned to communicate so readily. He isn't pushing forward in his language skills as fast as later talkers, because we understand him so easily and the need just isn't there. Oh well -- he'll catch up at his own speed. Our boy is also very generous. He loves Altoid mints. But whenever he gets one, he insists on having two -- and then he takes the second one to Dad, and waits patiently for Dad's attention so he can give him the candy. He loves to share! He has started to sing a lot again -- that comes and goes -- but he doesn't show much sign of giving Pavarotti a run for his money -- we still have to look to see if he's singing or complaining. We're getting Jack's eyes checked -- there have been some subtle hints that he may not see well and if he has an astigmatism like his father and I, we want to get that treated as soon as possible. I recently came across an that suggests that we're overparenting our kids, and in the process, we raising a generation of neurotic, depressed wimps. Excellent food for thought. Gotta go -- work is every bit as hectic as ever.
